This project was developed as part of my bachelor's thesis at Luca School of Arts. It centers on visualizing the tragic data of migrant deaths and disappearances along irregular routes in the Mediterranean and Europe during 2023, the deadliest year on record for such journeys.
The installation uses a word mural to represent each individual affected by these tragedies, focusing on the terms "missing," "survivor," and "died." This choice emphasizes the stark reality of the situation, providing a more impactful and authentic representation of the crisis. The repetition of these words creates a powerful visual and emotional experience, aiming to humanize the data and evoke a deep emotional response from the audience.
In addition to the word mural, the installation includes panels that provide detailed information about the incidents, such as the exact dates, locations, and numbers of those affected. This combination of emotional and factual elements creates a comprehensive narrative that encourages viewers to connect deeply with the reality of these perilous journeys.
Through this installation, I sought to highlight the human cost of restrictive migration policies and provoke reflection on the urgent need for empathy and action. The project integrates both emotional and factual elements to create a powerful narrative, encouraging viewers to connect deeply with the reality of these perilous journeys.
